MOORESVILLE, NC — Officers from the Mooresville Police Department and Amtrak Police Department were stationed downtown, looking for railroad crossing violations in Mooresville Tuesday morning as part of an initiative called “Operation Clear Track.”

According to Federal statistics, a person or vehicle is hit by a train about every three hours in the United States, MPD said.

The officers were positioned at rail crossings at Iredell Avenue and Broad Street, as well as Center Avenue and Broad Street, to increase enforcement. “The goal is to raise awareness and enforce state railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws,” MPD said in a statement.
