Presidential Primary 2020: Absentee Voting Underway In Iredell

We've rounded up the timeline for absentee and early voting in Iredell County, as well as how to check your voting status and more.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Super Tuesday is rapidly approaching, and absentee voting by mail is underway in Iredell County. The presidential primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 3, and now is a good time for voters to prepare by checking deadlines, voter registration status and other information.

Below are dates to know and other guidelines for absentee voting and preparing for Election Day.

Absentee Voting By Mail — Jan. 13 through 5 p.m., March 3, 2020
Voters seeking an absentee ballot by mail may do so by filling out a ballot request form and returning it to the Iredell County Board of Elections at 203 Stockton Street, Statesville, NC 28677. The deadline to request a ballot is Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. For more information, call the Iredell County Board of Elections at 704-878-3140.

One-Stop Early Voting — Thursday, Feb. 13 through Saturday, Feb. 29
Early voting begins at a limited number of polling sites around the county throughout February. All sites are open during the same hours on early voting days.

Early Voting Dates and Hours:

  • Thursday, Feb. 13, Friday, Feb. 14: 8 a.m. - 7: 30 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 21: 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 24 through Friday, Feb. 28: 8 a.m. - 7: 30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 29: 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Iredell County Early Voting Sites:

  • Iredell County Board of Elections — 203 Stockton Street Statesville,
  • War Memorial Building — 220 N. Maple Street Mooresville
  • Fairview United Methodist Church — 1430 Mecklenburg Hwy. Mooresville
  • Peninsula Baptist Church — 687 Brawley School Road Mooresville
  • Troutman Baptist Church — 305 Perry Road Troutman

“These are restricted polling places – These are privately owned buildings whose trustees allow the facility to be used as voting places on a voluntary basis,” the Board of Elections said. “As part of this agreement, they have requested that NO Election activities be permitted on their property.”


Voter Registration, Candidates and Election Day Voting
The deadline for registering to vote in the March 3 primary election or changing a political party affiliation before the primary election is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7.

You can also download the North Carolina voter registration application and return the completed application to the NC State Board of Elections, PO Box 27255, Raleigh, NC 27611-7255.

On Primary Election Day on March 3, polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Iredell County voters may find their polling place here.


Photo ID Requirements
On Dec. 31, 2019, a Federal District Court judge blocked a new state law that would have required photo identification for voting. That injunction will remain in place until further order of the court, the board of elections said. This means that no photo identification is required for voters during the March 3 primary election.
