Snow Prompts Early School Closings In Mooresville, Iredell County
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Iredell County and area schools are adjusting their schedules. Here's a list.
MOORESVILLE, NC — Schools in Mooresville and throughout Iredell County will dismiss students early Thursday as the region prepares for snow. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the greater Charlotte metro region from 10 a.m. Thursday until midnight, according to the National Weather Service.
Iredell County is expected to see about 2 inches of snow accumulation Thursday and road conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day, NWS said. “Roads will initially be warm and wet, but with slippery conditions developing as temperatures fall through the day. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.”
By Friday morning, road conditions are expected to be treacherous, as overnight temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s, leading to black ice, it said.

Threat of wintry weather prompted Mooresville Graded School District to announce Wednesday evening that students would have early dismissal Feb. 20.

“The middle and high school will release at 10:45 a.m., the intermediate schools will release at 11:30 a.m., and the elementary schools will release at 11:45 a.m.,” MGSD said. “Lunches will be available at all schools prior to dismissal. While we feel this will ensure our students and staff arrive home before driving becomes messy, we will continue to monitor the weather until that time.”
MGSD also cancelled all after-school and evening activities Thursday.
Iredell-Statesville Schools will also have an early release schedule Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. with elementary students, it said. Afternoon Prime Time and all athletic events are also canceled, it said.
