Here are the top four stories today in Mooresville:

  1. Indycar champion Will Power was recently injured in a go-karting crash at The Go Pro Motorplex karting track in Mooresville. According to Racing News, "That track is located just down the road from Team Penske's INDYCAR and NASCAR headquarters. Last week, the 41-year-old [Will Power] shared an onboard video from a kart race at the track. He was racing hard for position and came into wheel to wheel contact with another driver which caused Power's kart to launch into the air. It barrel rolled and the Indycar champion was crushed into the pavement. In the audio from the GoPro footage, you could hear the driver gasp at the impact. The end result was some broken ribs. Power is well into recovery and he's set to enter his 16th year of Indycar Racing. He's claimed 39 wins in 238 races. (Racing News)
  2. Christmas cards brighten the day of those who receive them. That's why, according to the Mooresville Tribune, "Felicity Gives Back, a community outreach of Felicity Manor, a future residential care facility for widows, wants to help make Christmas special for the widows and is asking for the community to share Christmas cards. Any variety of Christmas cards with a simple signature or note in an unsealed envelope is what is needed. Send the cards by Dec. 11 to Felicity Manor, P.O. Box 882, Mooresville, NC 28115 or drop them off at the community mailbox at 753 Oakridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, behind Freedom Christian Center."(Mooresville Tribune)
  3. Do you live in a community that has an HOA? Take note! According to WBTV, "Homeowners at Waterfront at Langtree in Mooresville have been asking for financial statements and an accounting of their community association fees for months. In return, they've received scribbles of expenditures on a yellow legal pad and a post on their community Facebook page about what the money has supposedly been put toward. It was a shock to the homeowners to find out that if the financial information wasn't turned over, there wasn't anyone tasked with holding the association accountable. It's not just the case for their community but any neighborhood with an association in the state. A dearth of rules and regulations in North Carolina over developers and community associations put homeowners at risk according to Charlotte attorney James Galvin, who represents homeowners in cases involving their association. At Waterfront and other communities, the pressing issue is about who actually controls the association. At Waterfront, the developer, JRN Investments, appoints and controls the board. According to the covenants written by JRN, the company doesn't have to relinquish the HOA until 2039. Under state law, developers have no requirement to ever hand the HOA to homeowners." (WBTV)
  4. If you're hoping to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your household, start with these animal shelters in and around Mooresville for a pet to adopt. Across North Carolina, there are thousands of dogs, cats and other animals of all ages and sizes without a home — and many of them are located within driving distance. If you're on a search for your new friend, consider looking around at a local rescue center like Feline Network Rescue, where Megan the cat is waiting patiently. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. (Mooresville Patch)
