Woman In Stolen Toyota Leads Mooresville Cops On Chase On I-77
The woman driving the stolen vehicle led Mooresville officers on a chase to Cornelius, where she was eventually located at a hotel.
MOORESVILLE, NC — A woman driving a stolen vehicle led police on a chase along the interstate before she was apprehended in Cornelius before dawn Monday, according to the Mooresville Police Department.
Shortly before 2 a.m., a MPD officer attempted to stop the woman driving a Toyota passenger vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Statesville, at Interstate 77 and Brawley School Road.
“The driver of the vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated,” MPD said in a statement about the incident. The woman then drove down Brawley School Road to Williamson Road, where she turned onto Interstate 77 south. She exited at Exit 28, where she turned onto Torrence Chapel Road.

“The driver of the vehicle jumped and ran on foot,” MPD said.
Several law enforcement agencies set up a perimeter and the suspect, who was identified as Mariesha C. Currence, 20, of Statesville, was arrested inside a neighboring hotel.

Currence was charged with motor vehicle theft, felony possession of Schedule II,pPossession of drug paraphernalia, felony speeding to elude arrest, and driving with a revoked license.
