Zeta Nixes In-Person Classes For Mooresville, Iredell Schools

A tropical storm warning was in place for the greater Charlotte metro Thursday, prompting schools to cancel in-person instruction.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Tropical Storm Zeta's inland advance on the Carolinas prompted schools throughout Mooresville and Iredell County to cancel in-person instruction Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the region Thursday morning until further notice, it said. Zeta is expected to continue to weaken as the center moves rapidly northeast across north Georgia toward North Carolina Thursday morning. Maximum sustained winds are expected to be in the 25 to 35 mph range with gusts as high as 45 mph.

"At this time, they are forecasting sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph, with the potential for even higher speeds," Mooresville Graded Schools said in a statement. "These wind readings are outside of the guidelines for safely operating a school bus, as well as having students in our mobile units."
