• Hazmat crews respond to chemical incident at Oak Island ice cream shop (wwaytv3.com) — A hazardous materials incident at Lil & John’s Sweetreat Ice Cream Parlor on East Oak Island Drive led to a temporary evacuation Tuesday after cleaning chemicals were improperly mixed. Officials say there’s no danger to nearby homes or businesses, but ask pedestrians to avoid the area and drivers not to slow down while local crews and a hazmat team from Sunny Point finish cleanup.
