• Every July fireworks display in Wilmington you need to know for 2026 (starnewsonline.com subscription) — Ocean Isle Beach residents can catch a Fourth of July fireworks show close to home when the Ocean Isle Beach Pier lights up the sky at 9:15 p.m. on July 5. It’s one of several regional displays from Wilmington to Southport and Surf City, giving locals multiple chances to celebrate Independence Day with music, festivals, and beachside fireworks.
   

• As North Carolina beaches erode, state panel weighs risks of hardened shorelines (wect.com) — State coastal scientists are closely examining how hardened erosion-control structures, including the terminal groin completed at Ocean Isle Beach in 2022, may protect some properties while worsening erosion elsewhere. Their draft report urges North Carolina to be cautious about expanding seawalls, revetments, and groins, and to fully weigh costs, benefits, and community impacts before changing oceanfront management policies.
