• $25M awarded for recycling infrastructure in post-Helene WNC (bpr.org) — Old Fort’s recycling center is getting $580,000 to handle the surge of debris and recyclables that followed Hurricane Helene, part of a $25 million state grant package. The funding will upgrade equipment, cut hauling trips, and improve efficiency for McDowell County’s solid waste system while similar projects roll out across western North Carolina.
