Bristol Salvation Army to host fundraiser as community needs rise (bristoledition.org) — Residents in Bristol are invited to a May 14 “Standing in the Gap” dinner at Luna’s Banquet Hall to support the local Salvation Army’s growing caseload. With rising needs for food, housing and financial help, organizers say proceeds will fund key programs, including revived Emergency Disaster Services, to better assist struggling neighbors and first responders.

Dad allegedly flees after tractor overturns, crushes toddler; mom accused of hiding him (local12.com) — Bristol police say a three-year-old died after a tractor overturned, leading to the arrest of the child’s father and grandmother. Authorities allege the father left the scene despite a probation violation, and the grandmother helped hide him before officers and U.S. Marshals made the arrest.
   

3. CREER en Bristol seeks donations to launch Appalatin festival for Hispanic Heritage Month (wcyb.com) — A Bristol nonprofit is working to launch a new Appa-Latin festival during Hispanic Heritage Month and needs local donations to make it happen. Organizers say the event would feature Latin music, dance, food, and local Hispanic-owned businesses, and be open to the whole community. Residents can learn more and contribute through the Creer en Bristol Facebook page.
   

4. Woman charged after being arrested at Bristol casino, breaking patrol car window (wcyb.com) — Police say a woman visiting the Hard Rock Casino in Bristol was arrested after allegedly causing a disturbance, refusing to leave, and then breaking a patrol car window while escaping custody. Officers quickly caught her, and she is now held without bond at Southwest Virginia Regional Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
