  1. Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson on Friday released a report including details of the police shooting of Reuel Rodrigues Nunez on May 7. The report found that the incident lasted about 16 minutes in total, and the police department has placed four officers on administrative leave. Nunez's family says that he had a history of mental health issues, and investigators found that his van and physical description matched those of a person who attempted to set fire to gas pumps on May 6 on Capital Boulevard. (WRAL)
  2. The Raleigh Police Department held a joint graduation ceremony for the 124th session of the Raleigh Police Academy. During the graduation, they inducted 24 new members to help fill vacancies in the city. The police department also held a ceremony for seven employees who received promotions. (CBS17) Twelve new firefighters also graduated the Wake County Fire Academy in partnership with Wake Tech and Wake County on Thursday. (Wake Tech)
  3. One man was charged in the Wednesday road rage shooting in Raleigh. A video captured at the scene showed that both men fired at one another. Sylvester Stokes was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a firearm by a felon. Based on current assessment of the situation, it appears that Stokes was the initial aggressor and the other driver was not charged due to acting in self defense. (WFMY, WRAL, WYFF4)
  4. Wake County has seen an increase of 36% in reported COVID-19 cases for the week ending May 7. The countywide total is about 20% of the total cases reported across the state, sending Wake County into the "yellow" or "medium" level of community spread. The highest infection rate per 100,000 residents is in Wake Forest, followed by Cary, Morrisville, Raleigh, and Holly Springs. (WRAL)
  5. Raleigh's District B city councilman David Cox has announced that he will not be seeking reelection. Cox was first elected in 2015 and is the sole member of the former majority to hold onto his seat.
