The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy National Bacon Day Raleigh!
I am relishing those high and low temperatures for today. It sure would be nice to enjoy the acorn drop in reasonable temperatures. I myself am more of a high 60, low 70 kind of gal, so they are going in the right direction. While we wait on the temperatures to get back to my happy place, catch up on everything, including:
- Wake County Sheriff's Office gets first K9 Kevlar vest.
- Cary's final art loop reception.
- Free COVID testing to prepare for celebrations.
But first, today's weather:
Mild with clouds and sun. High: 66 Low: 49.

- Raleigh Police have charged a man in connection to the death of a woman on Christmas at a Raleigh hotel. Brad Damon Greenlee is charged in connection to the death of Tayanna Lycurgus. According to officers, Greenlee had barricaded himself in a room with the victim and refused entry to anyone. Officers were able to use de-escalation techniques to take Greenlee into custody, but Lycurgus was found unresponsive and was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. (abc11, CBS17, WECT)
- The Raleigh Fire Department graduated 49 firefighters on Wednesday night. The class represents one of the largest recruit classes and expects to cut vacancies significantly among the Raleigh Fire Department. The recruits will report for duty at various fire stations in the coming days. (abc11, CBS17)
- The Wake County Sheriff's Office will receive a donated bulletproof K9 vest on Thursday. Officials hope it will be the first of many and is being donated by the Wake County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). The presentation will be one of the first for new Sheriff Willie Rower and he will be accompanied by a representative from the sheriff's office K9 program as well as FOP President Frank Sancineto and State Trustee Rose Bean. The sheriff's office says there is an uptick in the need for protection in 2022, especially after the killing of deputy Ned Byrd back in August. (CBS17)
- A Raleigh entrepreneur has launched the first-of-its-kind co-manufacturing space in Raleigh known as The Factory. The space has equipment and computer software for creators that can be used for a wide variety of crafts. The Factory has been open for less than a year and nearly 100 businesses have utilized its services to sell more than $250,000 worth of products. (CBS17)
- One Raleigh resident was almost victim to a six-figure scam, after someone managed to get his ID. Jon Arnold owns property near Avent Ferry Road and was surprised when real estate agent, Paul Huber contacted him following up on his interest in selling the property. Huber says that he was suspicious after whoever contacted him with a perfect copy of Arnold's license was in a rush to sell. Huber says that to protect your property from scams, you should claim it on online websites so you receive alerts if it is ever fraudulently listed. (WRAL)
