Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Community advocates are speaking out, as Raleigh copes with the fourth fatal shooting this week. Diana Powell, head of the non-profit Justice Served NC says that we cannot go numb to the gun violence that the community is experiencing. Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin says that the city is addressing gun violence via a new prevention program and the use of social workers to address mental health and other issues, but the government can't do it alone. As community members must be involved to help the issue, Powell was frustrated that only 100 showed up to the Gun Violence Awareness Day last month. (abc11)
  2. Members of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic had planned a "Bands Not Bans" event for Saturday, but made the decision to postpone the event "out of an abundance of caution." According to a post from PP South Atlantic NC on social media, given the events of recent weeks and a security threat that they received, they are postponing the event until they can find a venue that ensures a safe and secure experience for everyone. Members of PP South Atlantic declined to go into more detail about the received threat. (CBS17)
  3. PNC Arena has been hosting its first ever esports event, with the Apex Legends Global Series Championship this weekend. The competition offers a $2 million prize for winners, and much of the event was locally sourced, creating wide scale community impacts. Many competitors from overseas arrived at least a week early for the event, and for events this scale, it's estimated that 70-80% of fans come from out of state. (abc11)
  4. The BrickUniverse LEGO convention also returned to Raleigh this weekend, marking the eighth time the event has been held in the city. The event is expected to bring massive revenue to the area from visitors travelling from all over to attend. The event continues through today, but it all wraps up at 4:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets here to enjoy LEGO castles, characters and more. (abc11, CBS17)
  5. One person is in custody following a Saturday afternoon shooting at the Piedmont Apartments. One was injured and taken to the hospital following the instance. (CBS17, WRAL) Raleigh police are also investigating a Saturday morning armed robbery. The robbery took place at the BP on Capital Boulevard around 11:45 a.m. Police have not released a description of the suspect. (WRAL)
