Today there's some really exciting news about Raleigh residential developments, a new suspect arrested in connection to the death of Charlie Debnam, and a lawsuit is being heard that could help restore the voting rights of convicted felons. All that, events, and more down below.

Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:
- Wake Technical Community College has donated a site in south Raleigh to the county in order to develop affordable housing. The site is 6 acres, and will be developed into one, two, and three bedroom units with 30% of the units set aside for students. A survey of the site found that the location has 171,600 square feet of buildable space to develop on. The land is located close to downtown, and only a short walk from an existing bus stop. Wake Tech's Board of Trustees unanimously approved the land donation in June. (WRAL)
- Three Superior Court judges began hearing opening statements and testimonies in a Wake County court that could change the timeline for restoring voting rights of convicted felons in North Carolina. Several civil rights groups and ex-offenders are suing legislative leaders and state officials in a trial that begun in 2019. They say that the rules violate the state constitution and inordinately hurt Black residents. (Spectrum News 1)
- Another individual has been arrested in the death of Charlie Debnam in July. On Monday new Police Chief Estella Patterson announced that Jerome Rayshawn Smith was arrested in Rocky Mount. The incident involving Smith and suspect Marcus Walton caught Charlie Debnam in the crossfire. Both suspects are now facing murder charges as a result of the unintended casualty. Chief Patterson thanked residents for the community tips that helped identify and located both suspects. (abc11)
- A teenager was shot at an apartment complex in Raleigh on Monday afternoon. Police say that the incident was reported around 6:15 pm at the Trails of North Hills apartments, east of Crabtree Valley Mall. The victim was shot in the arm and was taken to the hospital to be treated for the non life-threatening injuries. Police say that there is no ongoing concern for public safety in the area. (CBS17)
- Trammell Crow Co, High Street Residential, AECOM-Canyon Partners, and HM Partners have teamed up to break ground on a 365,000 square f00t mixed-use development. The 20-story tower is scheduled to be completed by fall of 2023, and will be located at 400 Hillsborough St. The development will host residential units on floors 10-20, a pool and SkyHub on the ninth floor, and indoor and outdoor office space.
