The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing around town today.

Hi neighbors! It's National Neighbor Day!
I have tons of Raleigh news below for you, but I'm also super excited to share that the CDC has expressed that this year's Halloween should "absolutely" include Trick-Or-Treating! I'm extra excited to try out my social distanced tennis ball cannon for candy dispersal method. In my test run's it worked swimmingly, so now it's about figuring out the aim. (Disclaimer: this is mostly a joke) Anyways now that we know what Halloween can look like, check out everything Raleigh below!
Today's weather, 9/28: Clear throughout the day. High: 85 Low: 66.
Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- The International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass festival begins downtown today. The festival is expected to bring thousands of people and all ticketed events will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for guests and performers. Event goers will also be required to wear masks to all indoor activities and organizers recommend them for outdoor events as well. Regardless of the new precautions, festival producer David Brower says they expect 100% increase in attendance over last year when the festival was held online. (WRAL)
- The Wake County school board came to an agreement last week to lease space near the Crossroads Shopping Center in Cary to the WakeEd Partnership to convert into a "teacher store." The shop will offer free school and classroom supplies to district teachers in order to reduce the need for them to pay for items out of their own pockets. WakeEd will provide items with donation money or through in-kind donations. The board hopes to have the store opened in early 2022. (HeraldSun)
- Leaders of the North Carolina Freedom Park initiative announced on Monday that Holt Brothers Construction has been awarded the contract to complete the $5.4 million project. Holt Brothers Construction was founded by former NFL players and brothers Torry and Terrance Holt who played at NC State University. Leaders broke ground on the park last fall, and construction is expected to be completed next year. (Spectrum News 1)
- Raleigh experienced two fatal shootings this weekend. The first happened on Friday morning and police have made two arrests in connection to the death of Luis Hernandez-Gutierrez. Jordan Delancey Andrews and Jacob Darran Quincy-Gurley are both Durham residents and have been charged with the murder. (CBS17) The second shooting happened early Sunday and resulted in the death of Edward Eugene Marrow as well as another victim being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives are still investigating this double shooting and ask anyone with information to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers. (CBS17)
- Downtown Raleigh is home to a number of eye-catching colorful murals, and The Downtown Raleigh Alliance and the City of Raleigh are excited to expand and create more murals. Bill King, president of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance has been working to reintroduce downtown to residents and visitors, and believes that projects like Green City, USA are doing just that. Supporters hope that more property owners will buy in to help expand the murals downtown and support the arts in Capital City. (abc11)

O.K. so I know I said it was mostly a joke, but I do actually have this tennis ball launcher and it does actually work for fun-sized candy bars... My husband say's hard no, but if I create a target zone and am not shooting at children, is it really so bad?
