- RDU has already seen an increase in travelers, with an estimate of 500,000 travelers between Monday and New Year's Day. The airport has said tit will have more law enforcement present and more signs to direct drivers to parking. Health experts warn of the risks and encourage testing prior to travel. (WRAL)
- Firefighters are investigating a fire that was reported just after 8:00 pm on Sunday night at the Chelsea Apartments. Three units were damaged, one of which was vacant. There is a possibility that the fire was intentionally set, and samples have been sent away to determine the cause. (CBS17, WRAL)
- Raleigh police made one arrest in the fatal shooting of Kenneth Edward Scott Jr. on Sunday morning at Haresnipe Ct. Vance Louis Winston has been charged with murder and is being held at the Wake County Detention Center. (abc11)
- One woman died in a crash that closed down most of I-40 near Airport Boulevard. The woman was driving alone in a Ford SUV when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed the SUV into a tree. A witness pulled the woman from the vehicle after it caught fire, but she did not survive the injuries sustained. (CBS17)
- A home in Cary is adorned with a total of 200,000 lights in hopes that guests might feel compelled to give money to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Rick Grandinetti spends months preparing the display and it will come down the first week in January, so plan accordingly if you want to see the extravagant display. (WRAL)
