Happy National No Beard Day Raleigh,

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 71 Low: 45.

Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The City of Raleigh has received $73.2 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan. After identifying 5 target areas for allocation, the city has created a survey for residents to have input in how much is allocated to each area. The target areas include economic recovery, housing/homelessness, community health, infrastructure, and transit. (RaleighNC, Survey)
  2. The State Fair has seen historically low numbers in attendance over the last several days. Thursday and Friday showed the lowest turnouts since the fair moved to Thursday start dates in 2008. (WNCT9) Many locals opted to go to Dix Park's alternative weekend event to avoid the anticipation of large crowds. (abc11)
  3. Two major car accidents had fatal consequences on Sunday morning. One crash occurred on Capital Boulevard as the driver appeared to have gone off the road and up on the concrete embankment beneath an overpass. (WRAL) The other crash left one police officer dead, and another seriously injured after a Mercedes Benz crashed into the police cruisers during a stop on I-540 eastbound. (WCNC, Police 1)
  4. This week, the State Highway Patrol will be conducting Operation Stop Arm around school zones and bus stops. The effort is in conjunction with National School Bus Safety Week to enforce traffic safety. Passing a stopped school bus even without incident is a misdemeanor with fines up to $500. (abc11)
  5. A fall festival in Southeast Raleigh on Saturday saw dozens of people in attendance. Many were able to walk away with a $100 Visa gift card thanks to Pastor Philip Brickle of Lost Sheep Outreach Ministry. After losing three friends to COVID-19 over the last week, Brickle offered the gift cards to anyone who received their vaccine, with other incentives for those who brought someone else to be vaccinated.
