Welcome to the Raleigh Daily, your source for the latest on all things Raleigh.

Hey everyone, so sorry about the mix up yesterday. I experienced some technical difficulties while helping out the LA metro. Rest assured, today I have the Raleigh recap you've come to know and love.
With that being said, happy National Reptile Day Los Angeles! (Just kidding)
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 79 Low: 62.
Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- The North Carolina Department of Transportation has has plans in the works to resurface parts of the Raleigh Beltline by 2025, and it is now moving the date up to 2022. The project will resurface all lanes of I-440 from Wade Avenue (exit 4) to Wake Forest Road (exit 10). The maintenance was moved up due to the condition of the pavement, and NCDOT intends to address the flooding that is common near exit 7 at Glenwood Avenue. (CBS17)
- On Tuesday night around 11:30 pm, a teenage girl was struck by a car while walking outside the NC State Fair. The victim was not using the crosswalk when hit, and sustained non-life threatening injuries. (WRAL) This incident comes shortly after the death of Ben Derose, a student at NC State University who was struck late Sunday night while crossing Crest Road near campus. (abc11, WRAL)
- Pediatrics offices in Wake County are primed to be a part of "Wave 1" in the state's effort to vaccinate children age 5-11 against coronavirus. More than 230 providers across the state received notices on Tuesday asking if they would like to take part in the immunizations. If the emergency authorization is approved in the next few weeks, DHHS officials say North Carolina providers could begin giving shots shortly after November 3. (WRAL)
- Yesterday, there were two events that allowed residents to give feedback ahead of changes to come. The Raleigh City Council hosted a virtual "Ask A Planner" event to discuss the Western Boulevard Corridor study that will connect Raleigh and Cary. (CBS17) The other opportunity was for parents of Wake County Public School children to give feedback ahead of the reassignment changes proposed earlier this month. (abc11)
- A controversial change takes place in all North Carolina state prisons this week. Offenders will now receive printouts of digitally scanned mail. According to the department, mailroom staff confiscated 568 items of drugs and contraband in a year and this move protects them. Wanda Bertram of Prison Policy Initiative says that "people in prison depend on being able to hold and feel and smell a letter from their loved one to feel close to people they know on the outside. (Blue Ridge Public Radio)
