Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Last week's Wake Board of Education meeting saw tempers get hot, as people shouted insults amidst discussion. Data suggests that more than 70% of Americans believe that we are at crisis levels of incivility. Some parents are wary of attending the school board meetings as the persistence of toxic discourse presents itself at meetings and in other areas. (abc11)
  2. Tuesday evening storms brought down trees across the Triangle. Police had to block off a road off of Louisburg Road after limbs were brought down. Families also evacuated Pullen Park after heavy rain and lightning was in the area. Most of the storms were passed by 8:00pm. No one has been reported injured as a result of the storms. (abc11, WRAL)
  3. The City of Raleigh is closing part of the Lake Lynn Loop Trail in order to repair several pieces of equipment. The entire east side of the Lynn Road parking lot to the community center will close from Sunday, May 1 through November 1. The project will take down trees to widen and repave the trail, as well as improve drainage and prevent flooding. (CBS17)
  4. Wake County real estate prices have hit a new record median price, reaching $430,000 in March. The median price increased by $10,000 from February, which had increased $10,000 from January. In March, a total of 168 high value real estate transactions took place, with a total value of $384 million. (CBS17) Some home buyers and sellers are using social media to buy and sell. (abc11)
  5. Judge Michael Robinson has issued an order in the Leandro education lawsuit. The new state budget funded less than $1 billion of the plan for this year and next year, and in his order, Robinson said the state must pay the remaining $785.1 million. The order amends Judge W. David Lee's order to transfer $1.75 billion toward education from three state finance executives to three state agencies. (WRAL)
