Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Monday was the second day of the Wake County Schools bus driver "call out," to protest working conditions and pay. Yesterday, the Wake County Board of Education discussed a proposal that included a $1,250 retention bonus, additional pay for taking extra routes, a $13 hour minimum, and a 1% raise for certified staff. One bus driver is calling the proposal "a slap in the face." (WNCT9)
  2. After announcing the planned enforcement of a no-rental policy for the Renaissance Park neighborhood, the HOA is reconsidering the specifics. The HOA held a special meeting to discuss changing the rental covenants and bylaws, but it did not notify residents. The board is considering allowing for grandfathering certain renters in. The board will hold an annual meeting that is open to homeowners today where the matter will likely be discussed further. (CBS17)
  3. Wake County is hosting its annual State of the County Address tomorrow to highlight the progress made throughout the year and discuss the county's future. The address will have limited in-person attendance due to COVID-19 protocols, but residents can watch the livestream that will begin at 5:30 pm. (CBS17)
  4. Robert L. Luddy, founder of the Thales Academy chain of private schools and CEO of CaptiveAire is maxing out campaign donations to Wake municipal candidates. Although he is a resident of Wake Forest he has donated $5,000 to three candidates for Apex Town Council, where he has two school locations, and $5,000 to a candidate for Holly Springs Mayor.   5. The North Carolina General Assembly has had some notable controversary over the last few days.
    1. The Republican-controlled Senate committee approved a map of new congressional districts that the Princeton Gerrymandering Project gave an "F" grade and splits Wake, Mecklenburg, and Guilford counties each into three different districts. (WAVY)
    2. A former Gaston County commissioner, Donnie Loftis was sworn into the State House after the passing of Dana Bumgarner. Democrats walked out en masse in response to the appointment due to his presence at the January 6 Capitol Breech and riots. (WRAL)
