Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Raleigh police are investigating a man's report of a knife wielding woman, smashing his car window. According to the man, an unidentified woman got out of her car at a red light and demanded he "fix it." She began banging on his passenger door to get his attention and then grabbed a long knife and broke the window. After waiving the knife around inside the vehicle, she returned to her car and drove off before police arrived. (CBS17)
- North Carolina Senate leaders released a statement on Wednesday that they will be pursuing bipartisan negotiation on new district maps. The new maps will still need to pass the state House and Senate, and House Speaker Tim Moore stated that he expects votes in his chamber on the maps next week. (abc11)
- With booming growth happening in Raleigh, some of Wake County's smaller towns are feeling the ripple effects. Zebulon's population is expected to double in the next 3-5 years and other mayors are trying to prepare for population growth while maintaining the small-town feel. (WRAL)
- In 2021, the traffic deaths in North Carolina were the worst in 15 years. Some types of crashes saw a decrease over 2020, however the increase in fatalities attributed to speeding, distracted driving, and occupants not wearing seatbelts rose significantly. (Spectrum News 1) Regarding vehicle safety, drivers are concerned regarding the interchange from Wade Avenue to Capital Boulevard lacking signage. (CBS17)
- A Frontier flight from NYC had to divert to Raleigh-Durham International after a passenger became violent. Officials say the man began threatening other passengers after complaining about a woman in a seat behind him. Other passengers had to hold the man down and the Raleigh police were waiting to take him into custody when the flight landed. (WSCO-TV)
