Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- The Raleigh City Council is appointing a new board to study how to best engage the community. The city council disbanded citizen advisory councils in 2020, and received criticism for the decision. The board will be compromised of 16 people, nominated by the city's Office for Community Engagement and members of the city council. (INDY Week)
- One man is in critical condition after being shot in the head at the Quality Inn on New Bern Avenue before 1:15 am. The man was standing inside a hotel hallway, when someone fired shots at the hotel from outside. The victim was transported to WakeMed Hospital's intensive care unit. Police do not believe there is a threat to the public, although no suspects are in custody. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- Two people were injured in a Wednesday stabbing on Cary Parkway, and the Cary Police Department say that the person responsible is still on the loose. (WRAL)
- On Monday the Starbucks at Wake Forest and Six Forks Road tallied their union votes. The final tally was 5 yes votes, and 7 no votes, with several contested ballots. Starbucks has challenged three ballots that were cast by actively organizing employees, and workers have challenged a vote from an assistant store manager. There are also 4 additional ballots that were mailed but did not reach the National Labor Relations Board in time for the deadline. (INDY Week)
- Video was released on Wednesday shows the actions of Cody Thao, as he used his car to stop a wrong-way driver travelling more than 100mph.
