City Of Raleigh: Ladders, Obstacles, Stairs – Test Measures Candidates' Fitness Level

Firefighters must be thoroughly fit to meet the rigorous physical demands of the job. To be considered for selection to the Raleigh Fire Academy, firefighter applicants must pass the physical agility test (PAT). The test consists of a series of physical tasks, such as raising ladders and running, which closely resemble tasks firefighters perform on the job.

(Applicants must also pass the candidate written aptitude test and meet criteria included in the Candidate Selection Procedures manual). Apply by Nov. 30!

The Raleigh Fire Department is accepting firefighter recruit applications until Nov. 30. You must complete an online application(link is external). The agility tests are scheduled to be conducted on Dec. 14, 15, 16 and 17 and RFD will contact applicants with details about them.

The seven-month-long Fire Academy is scheduled to start in April 2022.
