The weather is getting hotter, but that just opens us up to all the summer fun that comes with it. From getting back to the swimming pool to some yoga in the park, everyone is gearing up for a fun summer season.

  1. Raleigh and Durham Police Departments are on the hunt for new Chiefs of police. Both offices were held by black women and whoever takes on the role will have big shoes to fill in regards to the social unrest that has been highlighted in recent years. (The Herald Sun)
  2. Volunteers spent their Saturday cleaning up litter along Avent Ferry Road. Currently North Carolina is on track to break all-time records for amount of litter collected for the 2021 year. One city counselor urges people to think before they toss and deposit trash properly. (abc11)
  3. As we regain a bit of normalcy and are entering into summer, parents are wondering about the safety of public swimming pools. 3 time Olympic gold medalist eases parents fears. (cbs17)
  4. A Texas-based food truck chain is planning to come to Raleigh this summer. Abu Omar Halal will be a Mediterranean food truck operating at 709 W. Peace St, beginning on June 5. (Bizjournals)
  5. Quail Ridge Books will be hosting various summer reading groups for kids. There are several sessions and they are filling up quickly. Book club admission will cost $20 and $10 for each additional child. (WRAL)
