Happy Family Day Raleigh!

Just wanted to say thank you all for enduring a day without the news. My daughter's first birthday was earlier this month, but because my son was sick we didn't get to celebrate. I took Saturday to give her a wonderful day, and appreciate your understanding of my absence.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and mild. High: 69 Low: 55.

  1. On Friday night, a recent N.C. State graduate was killed near campus. Friends and family are mourning the loss of 19-year-old, Cody McLaggan. 3. A grease fire caused a blaze that forced the evacuation of a Hardees. Around 40 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to extinguish it in under 30 minutes. The fire was caused in a vent shaft and it is unclear how severe the buildings damage was. (WRAL) Another fire left three families displaced on Saturday afternoon. The four-unit building off of Green Road also caused injuries to two firefighters. The blaze took 25 minutes to extinguish and all units are deemed uninhabitable. (CBS17)
  4. Two car accidents that occurred in close proximity sent two individuals to the hospital on Saturday afternoon. The first incident happened at the North Hills shopping center when an 80-year-old woman stepped into traffic and was hit by a car. About 20 minutes later a man was hit by a car along East Millbrook Road and was thrown about 15 feet, it is believed that he was using the crosswalk but the incident is under investigation. (CBS17)
  5. Judges are in the process of selecting new redistricting maps after the North Carolina General Assembly submitted its maps on Friday. The judges will work with three experts that were appointed to review the enacted districts to adopt or approve plans that comply with the state constitution. They have until midday Wednesday to select maps. (Spectrum News 1)
