- Members of the Raleigh City Council voted unanimously to once again defer a vote on the North Hills redevelopment proposal until next month. The project has seen considerable resistance from community members with concerns over congestion issues in the area. Outgoing Council Member Patrick Buffkin was the first to support deferring a vote on the project, pushing back on what he called "misinformation" about the approval process and steps that city officials were following. (abc11, WRAL) The four newly elected council members will provide very different perspectives than the outgoing councilors they are replacing and are eager to bring fresh ideas to the city. (INDY Week)
- Experts and community members gathered on Tuesday night to discuss gun violence in an event hosted by the News and Observer along with NC Insider. Panelists emphasized that there is no one solution. Among topics discussed were safe storage, reducing childhood traumas and red flag laws. Fiancé of Hedingham victim Mary Marshall, Robert Steele was present at the event and asked the panel what the state is doing to get more councilors in schools. Karen Fairley, executive director of the N.C. Department of Public Instruction's Center for Safer Schools said that funding for councilors is there, but they have not been able to recruit enough councilors. (CBS17)
- The Capital Area Greenway system includes more than 100 miles of paved trail, and one Raleigh organization is working to get more people using them. The Great Raleigh Cleanup began as a meet-up to help clean up litter on trails, and it is now officially a nonprofit. Although many residents have expressed concerns with the greenways after the events of October 13. The group goes out weekly with different groups to help cleanup and hopes that their efforts will encourage residents to get back out to the trails. (Spectrum News 1)
- Groundbreaking on Wake County's first new park in 10 years took place on Tuesday. The park will be known as Beech Bluff County Park and is just off NC-42 in Willow Springs. The parks design will combine public art and renewable energy sources. The park building will cost $20 million and will be funded by a bond approved by voters in 2018. Construction is expected to take more than a year, with park opening in spring of 2024. (abc11)
- NC IDEA has announced 20 grant recipients at their annual event. The organization awarded seven NC IDEA SEED grants and 13 NC IDEA ECOSYSTEM grants to companies across the state. - North Carolina State University will become home to the 2022 National Thanksgiving Turkeys that receive the White House pardon. This will be the first time that the university will serve as the turkey's home. The NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is setting up a special private headquarters at the Lake Wheeler Road facility. The broad-breasted white turkeys were raised at Circle S Ranch in Monroe by the 2022 National Turkey Federation chairman Ronnie Parker.
