Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. A police presence gathered for a second day at Crabtree Valley Mall on Sunday evening. At least six Raleigh Police cruisers were blocking a parking deck, with an ambulance also present. Officials would not discuss specifics, but they did say there were no injuries. (WRAL) The man who accidentally shot himself on Saturday night is facing charges following the incident. The man, identified as Allan Osvaldo Hernandez has been cited with discharging a firearm in city limits and carrying a concealed weapon. (abc11) Many patrons of the mall are also questioning security protocols in place at the mall. (WRAL)
  2. Raleigh police responded to multiple reports of shots fired on Sunday morning. Around 6:10 a.m. officers approached two individuals on Wake Forest Road, and while attempting to take one suspect into custody, an officer was assaulted. Christopher Ryan Pierce reportedly assaulted an officer and drove away, striking an officer with his vehicle as he attempted to flee. After a short chase, police took Pierce into custody and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of firearm by felon and possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine. None of the injured parties required hospitalization. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
  3. Stephen M. Bullis was convicted on various charges after mailing a bomb to an office building where his wife worked in 1995. On Friday he was resentenced. The convictions came in 1996, but nearly three decades later, two of his previous convictions were vacated. Originally, Bullis was sentenced to life in prison followed by consecutive 30 year and 19 1/2 year sentences. Last September, the two counts of using a destructive device during a crime of violence was vacated, as the definition of a "crime of violence" was declared unconstitutionally vague. After those charges were removed, the mandatory sentences of 30 years and life in prison were voided. During a hearing on Friday, Bullis was resentenced to 37 years in prison. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL, WRAL)
  4. At least four school buses were vandalized over the weekend at Garner Magnet High School. Two buses were covered in black markings of graffiti and numbers. A Wake County Public School System spokesperson said they were aware of the situation but had no information to share. (WRAL) Over the weekend one of the assistant principal's at Willow Springs High School in Wake County was charged with driving while impaired. The school has suspended Lindsay Anderson pending an investigation. (abc11)
