Curamericas Global Celebrates Giving Tuesday

Curamericas Global celebrated Giving Tuesday 2019 with a major milestone – the cap to their annual Mom-A-Thon fundraiser. The “virtual race” aimed to raise $500,000 by December 3rd to provide life-saving medical care to women and children in underdeveloped countries, and at home in the Triangle.

Typically, the fundraiser is a play on a traditional marathon. Mom-a-thon is a virtual race to save the lives of mothers in forgotten communities around the world. Each participant is asked to contribute at least $28 – one dollar for every mile of a traditional marathon. Each $28 donation can provide care for one mom and her family for a whole year. This year’s campaign has been focused around Curamericas Global’s “Girl Power” campaign – an ongoing effort to educate young women about avoiding unwanted pregnancies and keep them in school.

This year’s fundraiser ended with the non-profit’s annual Hops for Hope fundraiser at Big Boss Brewing in Raleigh. The annual fundraiser was held on Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, to celebrate Curamericas’ work, volunteers, and staff members.

“We’re excited to join two of our favorite fundraisers this year – Mom-A-Thon and Hops for Hope,” said Andrew Herrera, Executive Director of Curamericas Global. “The impact that we are able to make in the lives of women and children from these two fundraisers alone is incredible and we couldn’t be more grateful to our supporters.”

Curamericas Global aims to impact the health and well-being of women and children by creating culturally acceptable, sustainable health care centers and programs across the world. Funds from Mom-a-thon will help provide access to basic health care services and education in communities from Guatemala to Kenya as part of the organization’s ongoing programs, including the partnership with the Guatemalan Consulate Window to Health program right here in Raleigh. Curamericas’ projects have reduced child mortality by 62% in Bolivia, 53% in Guatemala, and 63% in Liberia.
