Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. Dontae Sharpe has finally received a pardon of innocence from Governor Roy Cooper as of Friday. After serving 24 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, Sharpe can now apply for compensation for the wrongful conviction. (NPR)
  2. Volunteers in Raleigh handed out 100 storm preparation bags at Worthdale Park in Raleigh. As temperatures are dropping, the storm bags hold necessary preparations in case of emergencies. (CBS17)
  3. A couple in Raleigh was out for a post-dinner stroll on Friday night when they spotted a coyote in the middle of the street. The coyote responded to nearby sirens by howling. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said it is not uncommon to see coyotes in residential areas, but they tend to avoid people. (WRAL)
  4. One man was injured in an apartment shooting near Capital Boulevard on Friday. The gunshot was fired from an upstairs apartment into a lower apartment. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. (WRAL) Another woman in Raleigh was taken to the hospital in an unrelated shooting on Friday night near the Starmount Shopping Center. (WRAL)
  5. One Raleigh family is mourning the loss of their family pet in Dunbarton Way. The family dog was attacked by another dog in the area. Russel Clayton was walking the family's pet when another dog came running toward them. The dog that attacked was taken by animal control officers. (abc11)
