Happy Daylight Savings Day Raleigh!

First, today's weather:

Occasional morning rain. High: 57 Low: 39.

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. This First Friday felt like some type of normal as people came out for the art galleries, live music, and Restaurant Week deals. The bustling scene left downtown vendors optimistic for the holiday season. (abc11, CBS17)
  2. A Wake County mother is angry after her daughter was hurt at school and leaders did not promptly alert her of the incident. The elementary student was roughed up in a fight with another student, and it took more than two hours for staff to notify her even though her daughter was suffering from a concussion among other injuries. (WRAL)
  3. A man was seriously injured in a Friday night shooting at the Quality Inn along New Bern Avenue. Police have no information on the suspect at this time and are investigating to "determine the circumstances" of the shooting. (CBS17)
  4. The number of open positions in the Raleigh Fire Department has doubled since February and a group representing firefighters is saying that low pay is to blame. Departments in surrounding areas can pay $9,000 more per year starting out, with Raleigh firefighters starting at only $38,058 annually. (WRAL)
  5. State lawmakers are working toward a deal on the state budget, but the spending plan may reach a compromise that doesn't include Governor Roy Cooper. Republican leaders are working on negotiations with Democratic lawmakers in the House and Senate that could give them enough support to override a veto. (abc11)
