Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- Early voting for the Wake County primaries closed at 3 p.m. Saturday. Thousands of voters turned out for the early voting, with more than 35,000 residents participating. Based on data from the Wake County Board of elections, the number of early voters surpassed the 2018 primary election turnout. The official primary voting day is Tuesday. (CBS17)
- Families across North Carolina are struggling with the shortage of baby formula. Some families have been forced to go to other states to locate product, or order from Canada. Health experts are warning families not to dilute formula, as too much water can have dangerous long-term effects. Experts recommend families call their pediatrician to see if they have any formula in stock. (WRAL)
- On Saturday the American Red Cross and other local agencies conducted its "Sound The Alarm" campaign to help families with fire prevention. The nonprofit partnered with the city of Raleigh, the Raleigh Fire Department and other local agencies to remove defective smoke detectors and help create escape plans in the event of a fire. The groups were at the Kingsborough Estates Community, an area that is considered high risk due to the older homes. (CBS17, WRAL)
- VisitNC and Airbnb are partnering to highlight small-town stays in North Carolina. Last year Airbnb hosts in North Carolina earned $75 million collectively. Through the Dream Big in Small Town NC giveaway, it will be giving out a $1,000 Airbnb voucher, a $500 Visa gift card and gift cards to three local businesses and attractions to five winners. (WRAL)
