Election Delays + Transit Seating + Drought Sparks Fire

Hey Raleigh People,

If you're travelling, I'm sure you've seen a huge increase in traffic as people are excited to have a holiday like what they're used to again. Below I've got one bit of Memorial day history, and some news to look forward to. If you've been following along, you're also aware that we are in a moderate drought and sadly, its effects are becoming more evident...

Here are the top 5 stories in Raleigh today

  1. You can likely expect some election delays in 2022 in many NC cities, including Raleigh. A new proposal has been made to address the Census Bureau delays. The new bill has been approved by the Senate Elections committee and will shift the timeline for the election schedule. (USNews)
  2. The suspect of a fatal shooting outside of a Greenville Dollar General was located and arrested in Raleigh on Thursday night. The arrest was mad with a collaboration of several different police enforcement groups, and Darrell Ray Kendrick will be charged with first-degree murder. (CBS17)
  3. A NC woman, Lenora Southerland, has made some waves in the way of bus seating. Originally Lenora had brought two large buckets to use as makeshift seating and left a note asking that they not be taken. After her buckets as well as a wooden bench a good samaritan had provided went missing, the city has finally installed a permanent seat for her. (MassTransit)
  4. Another fire has displaced Raleigh residents. With Raleigh under a moderate drought it's important to take extra precautions this season. The blaze began as an exterior fire and took 35 firefighters 10 minutes to extinguish. (WRAL)
  5. Yesterday morning, the campus of NC State University saw widespread power outages. The university's emergency management department tweeted to communicate with its students. (WRAL)
