The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Raleigh.

Happy Extra Virgin Olive Oil Day Raleigh!
It's the last day of September which means that the holidays are about to creep up so fast. It's easy to get caught up in everything, but I'm trying to take the time to slow down and actually take in all that's happening. It's been a lot of chaos over the past few days (in case you were wondering, all of my Florida friends and family are safe), but there's so much to take in and enjoy. Catch up on everything you need to know, including:
- Over The Edge Raleigh returns tomorrow
- Events still happening in spite of the expected storm
- WCPSS school cancellation today
But first, today's weather:
Rain and wind. High: 65 Low: 59.

Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Central North Carolina can likely expect anywhere from 3-7 inches of rain, as Ian is expected to reach hurricane conditions before making landfall again in South Carolina. There is an added isolated tornado risk south and east of the Triangle. Governor Cooper has already declared a State of Emergency and authorized the activation of about 80 members of North Carolina's National Guard to assist as needed. Officials with Duke Energy say they have kept their North Carolina crews at home in case of widespread outages, and they have been working on grid improvements and securing equipment over the past days. (abc11, CBS17, FOX8) Locals living in flood zones are concerned about the impacts on the area, but with new technology and the city's efforts to reduce building in floodplains, leaders have been preparing for flooding. (abc11, CBS17, WRAL)
- Wake County residents will have the opportunity to vote on three bond referendums in November. On Wednesday night, a community meeting was held at John Chavis Memorial Park to give voters the chance to ask questions and express concerns. The three bonds featured include Wake Tech's Workforce Forward $353.2 million bond, Wake County Schools $530 million bond, and a $275 Parks Bond referendum. (CBS17)
- If you are passing through downtown Raleigh tomorrow and see people dangling from a 30-story building, don't be alarmed. Over The Edge participants raised a minimum of $1,000 to support the Special Olympics North Carolina. This year, the event is expected to raise more than $100,000. Participant registration is now closed, but donations can be made still. (WRAL)
- Two Raleigh residents were killed in unrelated incidents on Wednesday night. Cynthia Ann Surles, 61, was killed around 9:15pm after a "domestic-related incident." Surles was rushed to the hospital after being shot twice, and died at the hospital. (CBS17, WRAL) Around 10:15pm authorities were called to the scene of a car wreck in which one person died. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, one driver went off the road, overcorrected, and crossed the center line, hitting another vehicle on Lake Wheeler Road. The person who died was not at fault for the accident. (WRAL)
- The Triangle Parade of Homes is set to begin on Saturday and will run for three weeks.
