Here are the top four stories today in Raleigh:

  1. An explosive device was placed in a Wake County mailbox and investigators are attempting to determine who is responsible. The Wake County Sheriff's Office says that the detonation occurred around 4:30 p.m. and was contained to the mailbox. They do not know what mailing service was used to send the device to the Wake County home. (abc11, CBS17)
  2. Landen Christopher Glass has now been charged with involuntary manslaughter, on top of the other charges relating to the Raleigh Christmas Parade accident that killed Hailey Brooks. A grand jury handed up an indictment to add the charges on Monday. His other charges include misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, carrying a firearm at a parade, as well as infractions for failure to reduce speed and improper brakes. (abc11, FOX8, WRAL, WSOC-TV)
  3. Wake County school safety assistants are asking for increased pay from the school system. The workers help special needs children get to school safely and say that Wake County's transportation depot is not safe to work in. The safety assistants are demanding higher payment, less than 24 hours after the school board voted to give attendance bonuses for drivers, mechanics and safety assistants. (abc11)
  4. Two people are facing charges after the December hit-and-run involving Beth Wood. Wood is facing several charges after leaving the scene. On Friday, two more individuals were charged. Jonah Mendys is facing charges of misdemeanor passenger failure to give information and obstructing justice and Ryan McGuirt was charged with misdemeanor accessory after the fact and obstructing justice. (CBS17) On Thursday, Wood pled guilty to charges, stating that she made a "grave mistake" and should have remained at the scene. (WRAL)
