Here are the top six stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The North Carolina State Fair exceeded 2019 attendance numbers over its 11-day run. The final Sunday alone, saw an attendance of 105,804, bringing the total somewhere above 960,172 in attendance. In 2021, the fair saw 824,328 in attendance. The pleasant weather likely helped in drawing more out to the fair, reaching pre-pandemic numbers. (CBS17).
  2. On Monday, crowds gathered to celebrate the completion of the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Cary. The temple is now the largest Hindu temple in North America, standing 87 feet tall and is finally completed after expansion began in 2020. According to the North Carolina census, 51,000 Indian Americans reside in Wake county, and the development showcases the growth of the Indian community in the Triangle. (WRAL)
  3. Wakefield Middle School was in a Code Red, then Code Yellow situation, when a student brought a single bullet to school. The student showed the bullet to other classmates nd claimed to be in possession of more ammunition. An update later came out that the student was found in possession of a BB gun that was confiscated. According to the school, appropriate disciplinary action was being taken, and extra caution was used during the dismissal process. (WBTW)
  4. Fuller Magnet Elementary School held its first ribbon cutting since the start of the semester in the newly renovated building. The ribbon cutting was held on Tuesday and also celebrated the schools 60th anniversary. The renovations were funded through the schools continuous building plan and funds from the capital improvement plan. The celebration included performances and speeches from students. (CBS17)
  5. The Cary fire department responded to a fire at a car warehouse on Monday night. The building was left damaged with potentially millions of dollars in inventory at risk. Around 9:15 p.m. crews were dispatched to Capital Area Accessory Distributors. The building's sprinkler system did activate and no one was in the building at the time of the fire. The department is currently investigating the cause of the fire, but the battalion chief on scene said they believe it was either bed liners of bumpers that had been burning. (WRAL)
  6. Learning Together is excited to bring back its 2nd Annual Book-O-Ween. This year, Learning Together experienced an explosion and a fire that forced it to relocate. Director of Development & Strategy at Learning Together, Mary Kay Kennedy says that she is just grateful no one was injured when a gas leak in their location's boiler room led to an explosion. The 2nd Annual Book-O-Ween event will return on Friday, October 28 from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Last year's event received great feedback from community members, including me and my son who loved all his new books. Learning Together is still seeking donations and wish list items to help support the organization. (WRAL)
