Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The family of 2-year-old Austin Thomas III is filing a civil lawsuit against the community's HOA. Thomas' body was found in the community pool and the lawyer representing the family says that the death is a result of the faulty fence that wasn't repaired. There is video footage of the child getting through the barrier of the pool. The funeral service for Thomas is being held today. (WAVY, WRAL)
  2. The teen who was shot outside of a convenience store on April 12 has died from his injuries. The Raleigh Police Department identified the victim as Timothy Solas, a 16 year old junior at Leesville Road High School. The death remains under investigation with no arrests made at this time. (abc11, CBS17)
  3. A large gathering was seen near an off-campus apartment complex near North Carolina State University on Thursday. Witnesses said there was a fight between people in two separate vehicles and a shot was fired between the two. It is unclear if anyone was injured from the fight or shot fired. (WRAL)
  4. As of yesterday, the intersection of East Davie and South Bloodworth as well as portions of each street will be closed for at least a month to make improvements. The closure began Friday at 7:00am and is expected to be closed until May 27. Officials have advised motorists avoid the area if possible and to expect delays. (CBS17)
  5. The Triangle SciTech Expo kicks off today at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences as the first in-person event in two years. The expo will feature interactive activities, scientists on hand, and is free to the public. The museum is still seeking volunteers to help with the event. (Spectrum News 1) The NCMA event is one of many big events set for this weekend. (WRAL)
