Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Raleigh police responded to a shooting that seriously injured one man at Triangle Town Center on Friday. The victim, identified as Ahmad Nasir Dimetrius Johnson was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injury. According to police investigation, Johnson was in a parked vehicle with suspect Barri Rodgers, when Rodgers accidentally shot Johnson. Rodgers was arrested for involuntary manslaughter and taken to the Wake County Detention Center. (CBS17, WBTW, WNCT9)
  2. The city of Raleigh's Fire Station No. 22 has gotten a new facility, that will help decrease the risk of cancer in firefighters. The new fire house on Durant Road houses the Raleigh Fire Department's hazard material unit. They say the station has a fire engine with four firefighters and an aerial ladder with four firefighters who work as hazmat technicians. The station was closed in February of 2019 for a planned expansion of the nearby railroad crossing, and the city of Raleigh used the opportunity to build the new facility as crews worked out of the water treatment plant on Falls of Neuse Road. (CBS17, RaleighNC)
  3. A 15-year-old student in Cary physically assaulted a teacher on campus last week. The incident took place at Green Hope High School around lunchtime on September 8. Video of the assault was shared on Twitter, with claims that have been refuted. The teacher is still recovering from the injuries, but has returned to school since the assault. Federal privacy laws limit the information that can be shared, but "the student was disciplined in accordance with WCPSS policies." (abc11, CBS17, WNCT9)
  4. Two Raleigh hospital workers became sick after eating homemade baked goods that were donated earlier this week. The employees at Duke Raleigh Hospital ate the donated baked goods, and later reported "concerning health symptoms." No other patients or employees ate the food in question, and Duke Health officials said they have referred the investigation to the Raleigh Police Department for further investigation. (CBS17, WRAL)
  5. A Raleigh man made a devastating discovery on Thursday morning, as thieves stole his "dream car." The thieves used technology to re-route the signal from a keyless fob to give them control. Michael Norris says that his BMW's key fob was hanging by the door inside his home. The technology was warned about when a team of Chinese researchers performed this kind of hack to demonstrate how easy it was to do. Experts say the only way to protect from this kind of theft is to avoid keyless fob entry cars. (WCNC, WRAL)
