Happy National Fried Chicken Sandwich Day Raleigh!

I know you're probably expecting some election results, but you'll have to hang tight because as of my writing this, polls are still open. There is also the possibility that they might not call all elections for some time, as votes are tallied. If you are as eager as I am, you can keep eyes on election results that do get called via the NY Times here. Until I get all of that information for you, you can catch up on the latest non-election news below, including:

  • Voter turnout remained strong yesterday
  • The Night Market is at Smoky Hollow tonight
  • Upcoming events to know

But first, today's weather:

Breezy with some sunshine. High: 63 Low: 52.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Raleigh who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Raleigh Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Election Day saw high voter turnout continuing through Raleigh. Polling places saw steady and frequent traffic beginning at the start of the day. Voters reported that the process was still fairly quick and effortless, with a wait that was shorter than expected. Several voters misunderstood Election Day polling places, thinking that they could vote anywhere, like in early voting. The State Board of Elections says that you must vote at your assigned polling place on Election Day. (CBS17)
  2. Authorities seized a firearm from two students outside Southeast Raleigh High School on Monday. School administrators and a school resource officer approached the students in their vehicle in one of the school parking lots. One of the students confirmed that the gun belonged to them and both students were removed from campus. School leaders sent a letter to parents on Monday. The gun was confiscated without incident. (WRAL)
  3. Police responded to a stabbing report at the Days Inn on S. Wilmington Street. The incident took place around 6 a.m. and officers arrived on scene just before 7 a.m.. Multiple officers responded to the motel. The female victim was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. A suspect is in custody, and officers were searching the property after the incident. (CBS17, WRAL) In a separate incident, an "older man" was stabbed near a sweepstakes parlor on New Bern Avenue on Monday evening. The incident took place around 6:45 p.m., and the man was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. There is limited information available on the suspect. (CBS17)
  4. This year the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program returns for its 19th year. The program features holiday trees with ornaments featuring seniors' first names and desired gifts. The trees will go up through Monday, December 5 at several locations across the Triangle. Unwrapped gifts should be returned to the location where the ornament was selected. The program was created by Home Instead Senior Care to help support seniors who feel isolated or lonely during the holiday season. (WRAL)
  5. Hoffman & Associates, the developers behind the $500 million Seaboard Station development, have secured approximately $198.9 million in financing for the second phase of the project. The developers have already broken ground on the project and the second phase is expected to be completed by summer 2024. Hoffman & Associates secured total project funding from United Bank, with additional contributions from Burke & Herbert Bank, Sandy Spring Bank and Dogwood State Bank. (MHN)
