Here are the top 5 stories in Raleigh today
- If you're struggling to find fireworks today, its likely a result of the moderate drought we are currently experiencing. Although Wake county is not one of the 26 counties on an official burn ban, we are experiencing less rain than expected, causing multiple fires over the past few weeks. (SpectrumNews1,WRAL)
- Police have made an arrest in connection with the death at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. James Lacy Taylor, 69, was found critically injured, and taken to the hospital where he was declared dead. Maria Elizabeth Pena-Echerverria, 18, was arrested thanks to investigation efforts of the Raleigh Police Department and the NCSU Police. (WRAL)
- North Carolina is one of 16 states considering legislation that will limit teaching about race and racism. Republican lawmakers say that the idea that the nation was founded on racism is divisive and has no place in the classroom. The move's opponents fear that educators will be forced to present a whitewashed version of history that silences the experience of people who feel oppressed. (NewsTribune)
- Raleigh police have arrested an armed man after an overnight manhunt. After taking a gun from his car after being involved in an accident and fleeing, police were searching for him. He was seen again Sunday morning at WakeMed and was finally apprehended and received numerous charges. (WRAL)
