Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:

  1. The first in-person forum for Wake County sheriff candidates was held last night. The forum was held at First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church from 7 to 8 p.m. Candidates Donnie Harrison and Willie Rowe were set to discuss community safety concerns, deputy training, the treatment of inmates in county jails and the department's relationship with the district attorney's office. (abc11, WRAL)
  2. GoRaleigh has been forced to reduce more bus routes as the driver shortage persists. As of September 11, around 12 routes were reduced. The routes that were impacted were based on ridership. GoRaleigh is currently down about 30 drivers, and the transit service has increased pay from $17 an hour to $19 an hour, with guaranteed raises every year. The move is temporary as it hopes to have more drivers by January. (abc11)
  3. Seven cars were stolen from a Raleigh auto dealership on early Sunday morning. The incident took place and was captured on video at Raleigh Auto Brothers. The thieves broke into the dealership building and stole the keys to every vehicle on the lot. At least five suspects were involved, and they also took cash and documents including titles from a safe. At least four vehicles were found later on Sunday after being crashed. The incident is under investigation, but the business owner said they are uncertain if they will be able to recover after the theft. (CBS17)
  4. Strickland Road Neighborhood Park was shut down on Monday afternoon after responding to a shooting call. One male was shot at the park and taken to a nearby hospital for injuries. Police have closed the park until further notice as they investigate. No suspect information or cause of the shooting has been released. (CBS17)
  5. The U.S. News and World Report on Monday released its ranking of best colleges in the country. Several North Carolina Schools made the rankings, including Duke at No. 10, UNC Chapel Hill at No. 29, and N.C. State at No. 72. The report assessed 1,500 U.S. bachelor's degree-granting schools, and analyzed 17 measures of academic quality including graduation and retention rate, social mobility and alumni giving rate.
