Happy International Chefs Day Raleigh,

First, today's weather:

Nice with plenty of sunshine. High: 78 Low: 50.

Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Wake County officially approved the anti-discrimination law on Monday. The new ordinance goes into effect on February 1, 2022 and will protect people in the county areas outside of towns or cities. The policy will prohibit discrimination in the workplace and public accommodations based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities. (FOX8)
  2. Part of Hillsborough Street was closed down for part of Tuesday morning in response to a bomb threat at NC State University. A department within the university received the threat at 11:15 pm via an unmonitored email. University police were notified of the threat at 8:31 am and according to a WolfAlert sent out at 11:10 am, they found the threat to be non-credible. Police are still investigating the source of the threat. (Technician)
  3. As Raleigh first responders are giving the city five more days to meet their demands regarding the vaccine mandate, questions are being raised about how this might affect the labor shortage. The group is calling themselves the City of Raleigh Freedom to Choose and is made up of 118 city employees including 53 police officers and 48 firefighters. Dan Bowling, a national expert on labor and employment law says "this is about the worst time cities can be issuing mandates and ultimatums to its first responders." (abc11)
  4. Last night, the Wake County Board of Education members discussed plans to begin COVID-19 testing into public schools. The district expects testing in schools with active or potential clusters to begin sometime between late November and early January. The board is also discussing how to handle the federal mandate requiring unvaccinated employees in workplaces with more than 100 workers be tested weekly. (WRAL)
  5. How far would you go for your kids? Chris Brannigan arrived in Raleigh, 999 miles into his 1,200 mile journey to raise money to help his daughter. His daughter, Hasti is 9 years old and has a rare genetic disorder that causes seizures and affects her growth. Brannigan has walked all the way from Maine barefoot with 55 pounds of equipment, and will end his journey in Jacksonville, NC. Brannigan says that he is "just a dad who's doing anything he can for his little girl." (abc11)
