Here are the top stories today in Raleigh:

  1. A high ranking Raleigh gang member has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for a variety of charges involving conspiracy to distribute drugs and conspiracy to commit murder. The Eight Trey Gangster Crip has operated in North Carolina for nearly 20 years according to the Department of Justice, and Deandre Earp was the second-in-command. (WBTW)
  2. A passenger died in an overnight single-car crash early Saturday morning. The car slammed into a pole at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and T.W. Alexander Drive. The passenger was killed after suffering direct impact, the driver was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the wreck is still under investigation. (CBS17)
  3. Raleigh police have identified the man who was killed in a Monday double shooting. Anthony Lamar Alexander died and police do not believe that it was a random act of violence. The case is still under investigation and officers are asked to contact Raleigh CrimeStoppers with any information they might have. (abc11)
  4. The North Carolina Supreme Court has set the date for arguments in redistricting litigation. The virtual hearing will be held on February 2, which will leave little time between the resolution and the date of when maps must be settled, set by the State Board of Elections of February 18. (WITN)
  5. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced on Friday that N.C. is one of seven states that won a nearly $65 million settlement against the former CEO of Vyera (formerly Turing) Pharmaceuticals. The lawsuit was filed in 2020 regarding price-fixing allegations after a medical treatment pill went up 4,000% overnight to $750. The company made the only approved treatment for toxoplasmosis until recently, and is now being required to pay back all profits from the drug. (CBS17)
