Here are the top five stories today in Raleigh:
- A man was found shot in a car on North Person Street on Friday night. The incident was reported around 8:40 pm when he stopped his car along the street after being shot elsewhere. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening according to officers, and the victim was able to call 911 to report the shooting himself. (CBS17)
- As gas prices continue to rise, with one Raleigh station advertising $4.19 a gallon this week, consumers are questioning what constitutes price gouging. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein says his office is getting a number of complaints regarding gas prices. Stein says that price gouging depends on how the high prices go and whether price increases are considered reasonable. (WNCT9)
- The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants says it is prepared to welcome Ukrainian refugees, although tit is still working to find permanent housing for Afghani refugees. The Raleigh Field Director, Dr. Omer A. Omer is no stranger to fleeing danger in his homeland. Now he and his staff are preparing to work with Ukrainian refugees as they settle into the Triangle. - A Jeep was stolen from a Garner Sheetz on Friday afternoon, and ended up crashing in east Raleigh. The person responsible was in custody by 2:30 pm according to state Highway Patrol. The driver led troopers through parts of Johnston and Wake counties before they were able to block him off at the intersection of Buffalo and Southall roads. (WRAL)
- All North Carolina candidate filing wrapped up on Friday for the party primaries. In the fall, voters will decide who will succeed retiring U.S. Senator Richard Burr, as well as the state's 14 U.S. House members, all 170 General Assembly members, justices, judges, and many other local positions. There have been 26 candidates who signed up to run for the Burr's seat. It is unclear if the candidate pool will be affected by the U.S. Supreme Court challenge to block the congressional map.
