Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. The city of Raleigh is considering making more of the streets neighboring Glenwood South permit-only during late evening and overnight hours. Residents have petitioned the city, as many struggle to find parking near their own homes, and non-residents often return and sleep in their cars in levels of undress. The city was first contacted by residents in October, and in February dozens signed the petition. (CBS17)
  2. Cary's newest shopping destination, Fenton, has seen at least two stores host ribbon cutting ceremonies. According to developer Abbitt Goodwin, all of the tenants are under construction and 24 tenants are set to open within the next 30 days. The development also boasts 357 multifamily units and 200,000 square feet of office space over the retail space. (abc11)
  3. Multiple traffic lights were out in west Raleigh on Monday. Duke Energy also reported 1,000 customers were without power in the area. Multiple lights at intersections along Avent Ferry Road between Western Boulevard and Gorman Street were reported out before 9:00 am. WRAL is still working to learn what caused the outage in the area. (WRAL)
  4. Gas prices are rising again and small businesses aren't the only ones feeling the sting. The cost of commuting to and from work is cutting deeper into paychecks. (abc11) The city of Raleigh is also discussing moving around more than $1.3 million in the city budget to cover fuel costs and other effects of inflation. (CBS17) Many restaurants are also experiencing inflation, as the costs of everything from cooking oil to poultry are increasing significantly. (abc11)
  5. Raleigh police are searching for a man who spent thousands at Target with stolen credit/debt cards. The cards were stolen from a wallet that was taken from a vehicle on Strickland Road. On May 2, Raleigh police released a photo of the man taken as he left the Target on Grove Barton Road off Glenwood Avenue. (CBS17)
