But first, today's weather:

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Raleigh who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Raleigh Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- More GoFundMe pages have been set up to help the victims and/or victims' families in the Hedingham mass shooting. Back the Blue NC set up a GoFundMe page for the surviving family of officer Gabriel Torres. All funds raised will go directly to his wife and daughter. A friend of Lynn Gardner set up a GoFundMe to help with medical costs. Lynn remains in the hospital in stable but critical condition and "has a long road to recovery ahead of her, including multiple surgeries." The GoFundMe for Mary Marshall, created by her fiancé Rob, is still collecting donations as well. (Spectrum News 1, WRAL)
- Families gathered at Dix Park on Saturday to participate in Shop Local Raleigh's Falling for Raleigh event. Those in attendance enjoyed food trucks, live music and games. It was not lost on event goers, the tragedy that took place just days prior, but police officers were on patrol at the park to help people feel safe. (abc11)
- On Saturday afternoon, a fatal wreck closed down U.S. 1 southbound in Cary for more than two hours. A car was driving with a trailer of kayaks, when some came loose and fell into the road. The motorcyclist who was following the car swerved to avoid the kayaks, but collided with the guardrail and did not survive. All southbound lanes were closed just south of the U.S. 64 interchange while emergency vehicles worked to clear the scene. (CBS17)
- After increased calls for information, the family of Sterlena Bland says that she is no longer missing. On October 14, family members gave an update that she was safe and had no idea anyone was looking for her. They say that the battle is not over yet though, as they shift their focus to getting her help she needs. (WRAL)
- The new COVID-19 booster shot for kids 5-11 is rolling out across North Carolina. The Bivalent COVID-19 booster shot was designed to target the dominant strain of the virus and was approved by the FDA on Thursday. The new vaccine is "a major leap forward." Clinical Scientist Dr. David Wohl says that if you take the Bivalent vaccine, you can expect to not get infected. (Spectrum News 1)

From my notebook:
- It's National Edge Day, and if you can believe it, the day is inspired by the punk rock sub-genre that influenced the straight edge movement. I frequently celebrate Raleigh's craft beer scene, but I think it's just as important to celebrate the sobriety scene. Zero Proof has been setting up alcohol-free social events for locals since 2020, with its next being a Halloween party you won't want to miss.
- It's Monday, and that means you can take advantage of the State Fair's Lunch Pass Deal! I tell everyone about it and I swear I feel like it's somehow the best kept secret about the fair. Here's all the details. (It's from a post from 2017, but I triple-checked and all the details are still relevant.) You can also find the details at the fair website here, but scroll all the way down.
- Avery Danziger has been photographing the North Carolina State Fair for 50 years, and it remains one of his favorite subjects. (INDY Week)
Now you're in the loop and ready to head out the door on this Monday. I'll see you around!
