Are you a local business owner or marketer in Raleigh? We love showcasing trusted businesses who can solve problems for our amazing local readers. Learn more about how it works.

Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. A GoRaleigh bus driver was trapped inside the vehicle after a Sunday night crash on Glenwood Avenue. According to a police report, the bus was being driven northbound when it hit potholes and crossed into oncoming lanes and hit trees before crashing. Raleigh fire crews were able to make an opening and took the driver to a nearby hospital. The one passenger on the bus was not injured. (CBS17) Snow and ice tend to bring more potholes, and if you find prevalent potholes, you can report them to NCDOT. (NCDOT)
  2. The Wake County School Board is set to meet today after the newly appointed member representing the 4th district has withdrawn from consideration. Craston Artis II sent an email to the board informing them that he no longer wanted to be considered for the vacant seat. He was set to be sworn in last week but the meeting was cancelled as questions arose regarding where Artis resided. (abc11)
  3. Wake County entrepreneurs have the opportunity to pursue a grant through Wake Tech. The program will help them learn to jump-start their small business with a five-week training session, and gives them a shot at $2,000 and $8,000. To be eligible, applicants must be a "historically underutilized" business, with household income within three times the federal poverty level, and invested at least $1,000 in personal money into the business. (CBS17)
  4. The City of Raleigh offered a childcare option to parents as Wake County Public Schools canceled Monday classes. The city's "Weather Bound" child care program was open for kids age 5-11 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Residents had to pay $30, and non-Raleigh residents paid $45 for the day program. (WRAL)
  5. Police are investigating two incidents that occurred late on Sunday night and early Monday. Around 6:45 pm on Sunday a pedestrian was injured by a hit-and-run and was taken to the hospital for treatment. (CBS17) Just before 10:00 am on Monday the bodies of two men were found inside a southwest Raleigh home. Police believe it to be an isolated incident with no foul play suspected. (WNCT9, WRAL)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
