Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:

  1. On Saturday, a special health clinic was held to help people who fled Afghanistan, but are still waiting for official government-issued refugee status. Until they become an official refugee, they are ineligible for Medicaid, and don't have easy access to necessary medicine, physical exams, or cavity checks. (CBS17)
  2. Raleigh police have upped speed enforcement, and in a single day they gave out nearly 45 tickets for school zone enforcement. The Raleigh Police Department is continuing to target speeding and aggressive driving to reduce fatal traffic crashes. (CBS17)
  3. The Southern Women's Show has announced that it will not be returning to Raleigh. In a statement on its website, it said the show is "indefinitely suspended." While it has not given any distinct explanation, in December 2020 when the event was canceled, the statement expressed that the plan was to return when COVID precautions were no longer in place. (WRAL)
  4. Apple is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of America to help promote STEM by teaching kids how to code. The "Everyone Can Code" curriculum has launched in several cities across the US, and will soon be expanding to Wake County. (BlackEnterprise)
  5. A Raleigh man has been charged with human trafficking a child. According to a Raleigh police representative, Nasjae Alston "maintained control over a 16-year-old female victim." Police are still conducting a follow-up investigation. (WRAL)
