Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:
- Friday downtown Raleigh featured aerial dance performers hanging from the new 301 Hillsborough Street high-rise. Bandaloop performed at 2:00 pm, after a 1:00 pm ribbon cutting. Special guests and speakers were in attendance, including Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin and leaders from the Fallon Company. The 19-story office building will be home to software firm Pendo who has already moved into the building. (WRAL)
- The Raleigh-based non-profit, Living with Autism has received the Triangle NC Cares Award for April. The award is supported by the Ricci Law Firm and is recognizing the non-profit that provides person-centered services and supports adults with intellectual development disabilities. (abc11)
- The National Weather Service is investigating damage to the Pfizer building near RDU, after part of the roof collapsed on Thursday. High winds came through causing the damage, but it's not yet confirmed if a tornado touched down in the area. Workers were inside the building, but no one was injured. (abc11)
- Raleigh fell 11 spots to #16 on the Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities Index (BPC) for the year. Durham-Chapel Hill actually surpassed Raleigh at #11. One large mark against North Carolina cities was the housing affordability, with Raleigh ranked #111 in that category. (WRAL TechWire)
- Raleigh has spent $29 million of the $73 million received through the American Rescue Plan Act. The city has until December 2026 to spend the remining $44 million, and is trying to be as diligent as possible with the remaining funds. Of the money that has been spent, $10 million went to address homelessness, $6.5 million went to economic recovery, $12 million went to community health, and $650,000 went to infrastructure projects. - WakeGov Pets: is hosting a rabies clinic at the Wake County Animal Center and will be offering vaccines for $5 from 9:00am-11:00am.
- The LGBT Center of Raleigh is hosting a virtual Open Mic night to discuss gender experiences. (7:00pm-9:00pm)
