Here are the top stories in Raleigh today:
- Geraldine Alshamy organized a virtual meeting to represent 1,057 voices who want masks in public schools. The number comes from a petition and survey of parents in vulnerable Wake County communities. The group says that COVID has disproportionately impacted their community with more cases and death among Black and brown people, and want to make it clear the vocal group at last month's school board meeting does not represent them. (abc11)
- The Green Hills County Park is increasing security after an 11-year-old girl told about a strange encounter she had with a man on Sunday. The young girl was exercising on top of a hill when a man approached her and followed her. This case is believed to be unrelated to the two attempted abductions. Authorities are now looking for the man described to be in his 50s or 60s with two front gold teeth. (WRAL)
- The Ziggy Marley concert at Koka Booth Amphitheatre led to many noise complaints. Some individuals more than three miles away reported the sound resonating inside their homes. Cultural Arts Manager for Cary, William Lewis said they were monitoring the decibels and although the noise remained within the approved curfew and decibel limits, noise spikes and low bass frequencies were difficult to control. (WRAL)
- The NC State Fair has released a sneak peek at some of the new foods coming to the fair this year. The new foods range from Cornbread & Chili Funnel Cake to a Shrimp Alfredo Stuffed Turkey Leg. The event is fast approaching, opening in less than 10 days! (abc11, CBS17)
- Dorothea Dix Park will become the newest home to the 'Wings of the City' traveling sculpture exhibition by Jorge Marín. The nine bronze sculptures will be installed in the park from October 2021 to March 2022. A map on the Dorothea Dix Park website will guide park-goers to the nine sculpture locations. (INDY Week)
