Here are the top five stories in Raleigh today:

  1. Jared Ollison, a former high-ranking employee for the Wake County Sheriff's Office is speaking out regarding current Sheriff Gerald Baker and the staffing issues. Ollison says that Baker has not been transparent and has created a culture of insecurity. Baker says that he feels supported by current employees. (WRAL)
  2. Today the North Carolina Board of Education will decide what kind of action to take against Torchlight Academy. The charter school was given until Wednesday to submit documentation showing they were in compliance with state and federal special education laws and leaders said that the school had submitted documentation. (CBS17)
  3. Crews recovered the body of a man who appeared to be in his 60s from Lochmere Lake in Cary on Wednesday. Witnesses had reported the man going into the lake around 9:30 am after slipping from the edge of a dock. Several people helped to get the man out of the lake before he voluntarily jumped back in, swam some distance, and sank without resurfacing. (WRAL)
  4. Two Raleigh residents are facing felony insurance fraud and misdemeanor making false statements on applications for insurance. Timira Chiquira Glaspy and Dandre Lamar Morrison are accused of telling investigators that Glaspy was injured although she was not in her vehicle at the time of the accident. (CBS17)
  5. On Tuesday night, the Wake County school board unanimously voted to continue the face-masking policy for students and staff regardless of vaccination status. The move is in an effort to keep students in class as they have no plans at this time to move to more virtual learning. The school board is also looking to fill the chair position vacated by Keith Sutton who moved to become superintendent of Warren County Schools. (abc11)
